Although the SMLI staff changes from forum to forum the San Miguel Institute itself was founded by Jim Karger and Dave Riveness. Jim and Dave continue to co-chair each forum and share a passion and interest in helping others in fulfilling their potential in work and life.

Dave Riveness is the founder and CEO of Corporate Jester, a company created to assist individuals and organizations to learn and develop strategies for success. In this role, he now delivers personalized keynotes, learning sessions and coaching for companies, organizations, and individuals.
In 2006, after working as a corporate speaker/consultant for over 10 years, David decided to tie together his organizational insights into a business book entitled "The Secret Life of the Corporate Jester: A Fresh Perspective on Organizational Leadership, Culture and Behavior”. Since publication, the book has received positive praise from a number of people in many different fields including the Senior VP of Strategic Change Management at Hewlett Packard who said: "The Secret Life of the Corporate Jester is a fun and intriguing read filled with insights into what it takes to be a successful leader in today's complex corporate environments."
